Kinderplanet Georgia

Kinderplanet Georgia is one of the offices of a German organization called Grace P Kelly Association for the Support of Cancer Research in Children; the office implements projects specifically designed for Georgia. Georgian office was opened in 2003 and it’s coordinated by Ms. Rusudan Nikolozishvili, who currently resides in Germany.

The goal of Kinderplanet is to provide the children and adolescents that due to chronic diseases have to spend most of their lives in hospitals with normal living conditions (conditions that other children enjoy everyday) on spot. Grace Petra Kelly was a 10-year old girl who died from cancer; her family tried to realize her dream in seven countries of the world including Georgia. Up to now Georgian Kindergarten has implemented several projects among which was creation of kindergarten as a form of psychosocial assistance for IDP children from Abkhazia (the principal of the kindergarten is T. Basilashvili); besides, the representatives of the organization visited various regions of Georgia and sent small gifts to poor families. In 2004 a contract was made with Social Pediatrics Protection Foundation (Director G. Chakhunashvili), the project implies building of a little garden for children placed in primary inpatient care. Similar contract has already been made with Mikheil Asatiani Psychiatric-Scientific Research Institute (Director - Professor D. Zurabashvili).

On February 15, 2007 the organization made an agreement with Georgian Association for Psychosocial Aid “Ndoba”. A new type of joint project that implies integration of handicapped adolescents in public life through their inclusion in labor activities (vocational school for handicapped adolescents) is planned. In general the Foundation depends on good will of people and organizations, it’s only oriented on charity work. Kinderplanet expects similar initiatives from Georgian citizens too and it will use the generated sums for funding various projects in Georgia.
