The Georgian Mental Health Coalition
The mission of the coalition – support the mental health field reforming process in Georgia oriented towards deinstitutionalization and community - based psychiatric care service development;
The main activities for the purpose of achieving the coalition goals:
• Active measures for the purpose of supporting elaboration process of the mental health care state policy and strategic plan;
• Joint actions for the purpose of providing high quality cooperation with state official bodies and maximum participation of the interested organizations in the coalition activities;
• Initiation of creation the effective legislative enactments or participation in the mentioned activity and lobbying the process of carrying the given acts into real effect;
• Supporting the development of the advantageous environment for the coalition member organizations and their efficient functioning;
• Elaboration / Implementation of the appropriate joint coalition projects corresponding to the common goals.
Coalition Project – “Promotion of adoption and implementation of the Mental Healthcare Policy in Georgia” is aimed to creation of the recommendations to the new MH Policy and draft action plan, strengthening the role and capacities of the coalition itself and, advancing the mental healthcare reform process – in general.
The project activities include conducting research necessary for the detailed situation appraisal, investigating needs and potential directions of MH policy, elaboration of the recommendations and action document concept, which will comprise a three-year plan of mental health development in Georgia (2008-2011), organization of series of meetings with key-persons and a conference for presenting the mentioned above data to all stakeholders; project envisages also activities directed at increasing the effectiveness and efficacy of the coalition functioning.
